Multimedia Marketing & Training Tool



 


HexaGroup was asked to help market this large IT integration company's Computer Infrastructure Outsourcing offering. They needed us to design a new marketing tool for prospective clients and a training application for the company's sales force. They essentially wanted one product for two audiences - a rare bird indeed.

 
 


The offering's main audience was complex and large - it would be easy for a marketing strategy to go off course and become mired in complications. Therefore, our design team's first task was to brainstorm simplified methods of message delivery that would reach users both in and out of the company. Whatever the solution, it would have to be self-contained and accessible on a wide variety of platforms, whether on an individual PC or large screens at industry trade shows, and would have to come with a complete library of materials relating to the offering. The library's data would need a safe "home" and would need a fast and effective delivery system. Lastly, it was essential that the CD have the latest information on the offering at all times; data would need to be refreshed regularly to remain up to date and cutting edge.

 
 


A visual component was a natural choice to reach both groups of users. Our new media developers created a 20 minute multimedia presentation authored in Flash that could be distributed by CD ROM, the Web or in large screen projections. We designed the presentation to operate on a split screen with the other half used to accommodate dynamic information updated via a web server through XML. The split screen created an opportunity for a split personality: internal users have access to support documents during the presentation, providing training on the new materials and external users receive instead marketing information. Another section of the CD is a document management system that allows users to browse/search for all documents available within the company's system, also updated by the XML system.

We next created a Web-based document management system, allowing the system administrator to push content to key sections of the multimedia presentation using the company's intranet. The content is updated daily and users can update their presentation by using the update module available on the CD.

 
 


The CIO Sales Kit is a single product for two audiences. The kit has three components: The visual presentation effectively markets the outsourcing offering to both internal and external users on a wide variety of platforms, with the split screens carrying customized information depending on the audience. Internally, the split screen facilitates a training session; externally, it becomes an additional marketing tool. The second component, a Web-based document management system, allows for flexibility of content management. Information about the offering is not sequestered with the presentation, but accessible by the entire division via the company's intranet. The third component, the dynamic XML-driven update module, keeps the information fresh and up to date.

The CIO Sales Kit's innovative design earned professional recognition at the 2003 Gartner IT expo in Orlando, Florida.
