Background & ObjectiveFor drilling operations to proceed safely and efficiently, the oil and gas industry depends on well-trained and competent personnel. To ensure that both operators and their workers perform their work well, Lloyd's Register Energy-Drilling has three modern training facilities, more than 1,477 candidates worldwide, 15 professional trainers, and 14 IADC-accredited courses. With its finger on the pulse of the needs of the global industry, Lloyd’s Register Energy commissioned HexaGroup to develop a training application that would enable workers to conveniently register for training classes from their cellphones.
The SolutionHexaGroup worked with Lloyd’s Register Energy to implement useful features including a course schedule, maps with locations of the courses being offered, and the ability for trainees to let the company know which courses they want. Rather than logging into a website, trainees can access all courses on their smart phones or tablets, obtain course details, and make a reservation. With so many courses being added to the schedule so quickly, HexaGroup built the app on a CMS to deliver ongoing speed and convenience. In addition, via the app, Lloyd’s is able to collect valuable training data in its databases and share that data with the industry. The app is available on phone, tablet, iOS, and Google Android platforms.
For the next phase, HexaGroup anticipates adding account management to the app. Account management functionality will allow training managers to access information on all his/her rig crews and where they are in their training. The app will show what courses they have taken, what they still need to take, and what's available. HexaGroup will also implement e-commerce capabilities in the near term.
